GP fund scam in B’pora: Govt yet to take action on Health Dept’s report

Srinagar, Aug 30: The government is yet to take action on the recommendations submitted by the health department Kashmir against the officials allegedly involved in fake G.P fund scam in District Bandipora.

In February this year, following the expose about generation of fake General Provident Fund Numbers scam in Health Department Bandipora, Government had attached 20 officials including 16 Block Medical Officers (BMOs) who had served in Bandipora from 2007. Sources said that following the expose of scam the committee was constituted to investigate the matter.

According to the then order bearing number 104/NG of 2018 Dated 02-02-2018 it was said that a committee is to be constituted separately who will investigate the matter of fake G P Fund account numbers different Block Medical Offices in district Bandipora. Till the submission of the final reports of the committee, 20 Officers and officials are hereby attached and directed to report DHSK,” the order had said.

One of the top officials here in the health department told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that they have submitted the report to the government. “Now it is up to the higher authorities in the civil secretariat to take action,” said the official insisted not to be named.

He further told KNS that the government had even issued orders of stopping of salary of Chief Medical Officer Bandipora along with all the drawing and disbursing officers heading the health blocks.

Sources said that it had come to the fore that Health Department Bandipora had generated fake GP Fund subscription numbers to accommodate employees. “The fake GP Fund subscription numbers were allegedly generated by few officials in CMO office Bandipora to accommodate employees illegally recruited in violation of norms during last few years in the health department across the district,” the reports had said.

GPF subscription numbers were found fake after the officers in local fund office smell rat in the appointment of newly ‘recruited employees’ and initiated the thorough investigation into the records pertaining to new entrants in the health department.

Sources said that over 129 GPF subscription numbers were proved fake after the investigation. The numbers according to authoritative sources pertain to the employees which were recruited in volition of norms from the year 2005 t to 2016.

Among the 129 fake GPF subscription numbers, 26 were from block Bandipora, 17 from Block Hajin and 86 from block Gurez of Bandipora district.
