SRINAGAR: Locals residing along a bypass stretch, leading from Tattoo Ground to Tengpora, in Srinagar district’s Batamaloo area yesterday evening purportedly sighted a leopard, descending the whole locality into chaos and panic.

Locals told the news agency CNS that the leopard was sighted in the vicinity of Moominabad Batamaloo and subsequently, the residents were alerted about the prowling of the beast in the area.

“It was around dusk time on Wednesday (17th April) when locals residing along the Batamaloo bypass stretch were seen in panic and rushing towards their homes as one of the residents had caught the sight of the leopard,” they said.

The roaming of the leopard created an atmosphere of chaos and residents remained vigil by not venturing out without need after the Maghrib prayers, locals added.

Meanwhile, the wildlife department has been appealed to scour the suspected areas where the leopard was sighted so that the residents can freely move around.

It is pertinent to mention that a leopard was also spotted in Malabagh area of Srinagar days ago. (CNS)
