Samoon launches J&K Comprehensive School Safety Programme

Srinagar: ELFA International on Thursday organised a Training of Trainers (ToT) for teachers and Children at Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School Nawakadal on School Safety- Disaster Risk Reduction, Child Protection, COVID-19 IPC, WASH and Menstrual Hygiene Management.

This training is part of Safe Schools Pilot Programme being implemented by ELFA International under the J&K Comprehensive School Safety Programme of Samagra Shiksha, Department of School Education J&K.

 More than 90 students, 30 teachers and staff of GGHSS Nawakadal participated in this training programme. 

On this occasion, at the culmination of the session, Principal Secretary (School Education & Skill Development) Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon (IAS) inaugurated the J&K Comprehensive School Safety Programme.

Director School Education Kashmir Mohammad Younis Malik, Principal & faculty members of GGHSS Nawakadal and officials from Samagra Shiksha were present on the occasion.

State Project Director Arun Manhas (KAS), officials of the Education Department, Samagra Shiksha and heads of 8 schools from district Kupwara developed under this pilot programme also attended the launch online. 

ELFA International has already trained around 3575 Children, 799 Teachers, 300 Parents, VECs, SMCs and 30 senior government officials on School Safety- Disaster Risk Reduction, Child Protection, COVID-19 IPC, WASH and Menstrual Hygiene Management from nearly 25 communities/schools of district Kupwara and Srinagar.

“we are exploring opportunities to expand this project to other schools and districts of Jammu & Kashmir as all the stakeholders have appreciated the way ELFA International has conducted face to face training following all COVID 19 SOPs issued by the government of J&K and World Health Organization,” Mehran Khan , CEO of ELFA International said.

Besides the training ELFA International also installed foot operated hand washing stations, IEC material, Sanitary Napkin dispensers and incinerators in all the models schools developed under the Safe Schools Pilot Programme
