Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government has set the target of completing 32615 development projects this year.

This is 30 percent more than last year.

An official document accessed by The Kashmir Monitor revealed that the government completed a record 22766 developmental projects last fiscal. In 2019-20, 6933 projects were completed.

It said the government this year has set the target of completing 32615 development projects in the union territory.

“Physical completion of projects and works have witnessed substantial improvement in comparison to achievements made during the previous year,” the document said.

As per the document, the government has emphasized the need of integrating all works, and activities funded under different sources including centrally sponsored Schemes into one platform “so that the public can have its eye on all the spending made on infrastructure development in UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

It said the government has directed the departments to make efforts for the timely release of funds and their utilization.

“To ensure the timely release of Central Share under Centrally Sponsored Schemes, all the departments must engage with their respective Ministries in GoI to assess the likely budget earmarked for J&K that can be released for the respective scheme,” it said.

Official sources said that the government this financial year has directed the departments to ensure the completion of all the new development projects before the end of the financial year.

“The government has enlisted all the newly commissioned projects, which belong to various departments. It includes the construction of new roads, bridges, and water supply schemes apart from schools, playgrounds, and  Panchayat Ghars,” they said.

Sources said the languishing projects have also been prioritized and they will be completed this financial year.

“Jammu and Kashmir Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (JKIDFC) Ltd has already directed the concerned departments to complete languishing scheme projects of the last Financial Year (FY) by the end of this month. It is because the funding of projects beyond June 2023 becomes difficult except under extraordinary conditions. So, all the departments are currently on their toes to complete languishing projects in the coming months,” they said.
