Srinagar, Nov 20: Seeking the intervention of the Governor Satya Paul Malik, a Tengpora family, whose son’s dead body was found mysteriously in a nallah near Parimpora, on Tuesday demanded the removal of SHO in order to ensure “fair” trial.

Ubaid Altaf, a salesman by profession went missing on September 27 after he went for outing with his two friends.

Staging protest at Press Enclave on Tuesday, the family members who were carrying placards and raising slogans in favour of their demands said that police station Parimpora has done nothing so far to book the culprits.

“After coming back from his work, my son went to the washroom and washed his face. As soon as he came out, he told me that he has to go with his friends. I gave the permission, but didn’t know that he will leave us forever,” said the deceased’s mother Shamima Bano.

Elaborating the events that unfolded on the day, Shamima said that police station Parimpora has been trying to “hush-up” the case.

Demanding stern punishment to the guilty, the family alleged that the two friends, with whom Ubaid went out on the day, are behind his killing.

“I fail to understand as to why they have been released. The police have adopted a lackadaisical approach. They have not even filed the FIR yet nor have they done anything to get the postmortem report from Forensic Science Laboratory,”said Ubaid’s father, Mohammad Altaf.

“These boys kept us in dark. Initially they told us that the bike met an accident and they ran away. How come they knew about the whereabouts of the dead body? Arif Ahmad of Beerwah took us to the spot, where dead body was lying,” said the father.

However, the family praised the efforts of SHO Batmaloo, Sabzar Ahmad, who as per them brought all the suspects to his Police station and questioned them there.

Despite repeated attempts, the higher-ups of police could not be contacted for their comments.
