Srinagar, July 31:An important meeting of Hurriyat Conference (M) under the chairmanship of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was held at its headquarters Rajbagh on Tuesday in which all members discussed the “serious threat” posed to Article 35-A dealing with the heredity state subject laws of the State since 1927.

A statement issued said that all the members expressed grave concern over New Delhi’s “onslaught” against the people of J&K by allowing and encouraging various PILs to challenge 35-A in the Supreme Court of India.

“The motive behind this move is to change the demographic character of J&K by turning its original citizens into a minority through settling outsiders here and hence undo its internationally recognized disputed nature and the need to resolve that dispute,” the participants said.

The amalgam said that no court whether in India or in Pakistan has any jurisdiction to take decisions that can in any way affect the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir as its original citizens are yet to exercise the right to determine their final dispensation as promised by scores of UN resolutions and backed by both countries.

The members reiterated that “Kashmir was, is, and will remain an internationally recognized dispute until it is resolved as per the aspirations of its people”.

“All such ploys will be resisted both by the leadership and people of J&K and there is no way that tinkering with 35-A will be taken lying low or tolerated. The leadership and people with defend it with their life if need arises,” the meeting observed.

The members fully supported the JRL call for protest strike on August 5 and 6 and an ‘all out mass agitation’ if any “mischief” is done with 35-A. “All segments of society are completely one on this.” they said and asked the party cadres and activists to gear up and mobilize public for mass agitation in case need arises.

The members reiterated appeal to both India and Pakistan to end hostilities and give peace a real chance by coming together to resolve the Kashmir dispute once for all in keeping with the will of the people of J&K.

The meeting welcomed the recent statement of PTI chief Imran Khan calling for dialogue on Kashmir.

The amalgam urged the Government of India to respond positively to this initiative and start a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan and people of Kashmir.
