Encouraging filmmakers to take advantage of Kashmir’s breathtaking landscapes, Minga Sherpa, the Director of Information, emphasized the region’s potential as a paradise for film shooting.

During the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting, Sherpa delivered a presentation, highlighting Jammu and Kashmir’s adoption of a streamlined process for facilitating film shooting, including permissions and subsidies.

“We offer a range of renowned locations such as Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg. Additionally, the government recently announced the opening of over 300 locations across the Union Territory for shooting purposes. We have implemented a single window approach, ensuring a seamless process for filmmakers in obtaining permissions and availing subsidies,” Sherpa stated.

Sherpa further mentioned that the film sector has been recognized as an industry under the J&K Industrial Policy, 2021. Filmmakers are now eligible for subsidies, and the application process has been simplified. By applying to the Department of Industries, line producers and producers can access these subsidies.

The Department of Information serves as the nodal office for film shootings, working in collaboration with district magistrates, police, and traffic authorities to ensure a hassle-free experience for filmmakers.

The Director of Information highlighted the valley’s track record of hosting numerous blockbuster movies, underscoring the department’s facilitation of 400 film shootings, including those for films, OTTs, and various other genres.
