Jammu doc terminated over FB post

Srinagar, Mar 18: In a first Jammu Kashmir government has terminated the services of Dr Amit Kumar, registrar at government medical college Jammu for his Facebook post violating the recently issued SRO 525 which bars a government employee from writing on social media against the government.

In an order issued by the Government Medical College Jammu on March 15, the services of Dr Amit Kumar have been terminated after: “He used his personal social media account (Facebook) and commented with the intent of provoking readers.”

The termination order reads: “Whereas Dr Amit Kumar furnished an affidavit at the time of joining as Registrar (Anaesthesia), where upon he has solemnly affirmed and declared that in case of any misconduct or negligence on his part, his engagement shall be terminated.”

Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina confirmed they have terminated the doctor for “anti-government” post.

“We have taken the action against the doctor as per the rules. We had given him two days show cause notice to explain the reasons, but he didn’t give a satisfactory answer, so we took the action,” she said.
