Srinagar, Sep 29: For the 56th consecutive day, the situation in Kashmir remained grim as businesses stayed closed, schools shut and normal life disrupted.

The situation continues to remain so since August 5 when government of India stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and bifurcated the state into union territories.

Continued restrictions and communication blackout too remains imposed since the day.

Normal life continues to remain crippled with closure of shops, markets, business establishments and educational institutions as well as the absence of public transport.

Thousands of paramilitary and police personnel have been deployed in nook and corner of the valley.

While parents are reluctant to send their wards to schools in the prevailing precarious situation, a very thin attendance of teachers was reported.

Attendance of employees in government offices was recorded constantly thin due to the non-availability of public transport. Train service too remains suspended.

The officials said there are no restrictions in the valley but security forces continue to be deployed in vulnerable areas to maintain law and order.

Mobile services remain suspended in Kashmir while internet services continue to be snapped across all platforms in the valley.

Besides Srinagar city, the shutdown is being observed in all the districts and towns of Kashmir.
