Srinagar, Mar 6: Two civilians were killed in separate incidents in Kashmir on Friday, one involving a grenade attack in Srinagar and the second a firearm attack in Tral.
In Srinagar, a 62-year-old man died and another was injured in a grenade blast in Zainakadal area of old city Friday evening.
Quoting a police officer, news agency GNS reported that suspected militants lobbed a grenade on 23 bn CRPF bunker at Zainakadal.
In the attack, two pedestrians suffered splinter injuries and were immediately shifted to SMHS hospital, the news agency quoted the officer saying.
“Among the injured, one person Ghulam Nabi Ahanger (62), a resident of Astan Mohalla Zainakadal succumbed to injuries,” he said. The deceased was a former PDD employee.
The officer identified the injured as Rafiq Ahmad.
Soon after the incident, SOG, police, and CRPF cordoned off the area and started searches to nab the attackers.
In another incident, a 30-year-old man was killed by unknown gunmen in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The same news agency said that unknown gunmen fired upon Shabir Ahmad Bhat (30) son of Sideeq Bhat in Tral Town Friday evening.
The incident occurred when Bhat was driving his car (Duster vehicle CH 01 AQ/ 8750) on Tral-Gamraz road. “Bhat, a resident of Tral Payeen was shot in his head and was immediately shifted to Sub-District Tral hospital where he was declared brought dead,” the news agency reported.
A senior Police officer confirmed the killing and said the searches have been launched to track down the attackers.
Bhat was dealing with selling and purchasing of vehicles, the officer said.
