The civil aviation ministry has said no domestic flights will operate from midnight of Tuesday, a development that comes as the country goes into lockdown mode in a effort to control the spread of coronavirus.
All airlines have been asked to land all their domestic passenger flights at destinations by 11.59 pm on Tuesday, the ministry said in a statement.
However, operations of domestic cargo flights will continue as usual.
India has already banned international flights for a week from Sunday.
“The operations of domestic schedule commercial airlines shall cease with effect from the midnight that is 23.59 hours IST (Indian Standard Time) on March 24, 2020,” the Civil Aviation Ministry said in its order.
The order went on the suggest that Airlines should plan their operations so as to land at their destinations before 23.59 hours on March 24, 2020.
