Srinagar: Three militants were killed in an encounter that broke between security forces and militants in the Lower Munda Area of Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday morning.

Official sources said that three militants were killed in a gunfight. However, the identity of the slain militants is yet to be identified.

A search operation in the area is underway.

Earlier reports said that a joint team of Police and Army’s 19 RR launched cordon and search operation in Lower Munda.

As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter.

On Sunday evening, an encounter broke out in Asthal village of Kulgam in which four militants were killed.

This is the sixth encounter in south Kashmir in the past 10 days. Fourteen local militants and one of their associates were killed down in the previous five encounters.

The overall count of the militants killed so far this year has risen to 58, news agency PTI reported.
