Srinagar, Jan 07: Authorities on Monday restored the train services in north Kashmir after a day-long suspension following the shutdown in north Kashmir’s Sopore to mark the 26th anniversary of the 1993 massacre.
An official from the Railway department said that trains will chug as per schedules from Srinagar to Budgam in central Kashmir and Budgam to Baramulla in north Kashmir. “The services were suspended for the precautionary measures,” he said.
On Sunday, Sopore in north Kashmir observed a complete shutdown on the anniversary of the massacre. On this day, in 1993, BSF men fired indiscriminately in Sopore market, setting shops, houses on fire and more than fifty civilians were killed in the massacre.
Besides the shutdown, special prayers were also offered in mosques and graveyards.
