Srinagar, Mar 17: Senior Congress leader and former Minister, Taj Mohi Din today criticized the Government for ignoring the people of Uri in its developmental programmes.
Interacting with people here on his arrival from Jammu, the senior Congress leader alleged that most of the developmental works in the constituency have been put on hold and the people are reeling under difficulties. He alleged that most of the works under Rural Development schemes have been left midway leaving people high and dry.
Taj Mohi ud Din lamented the attitude of the Government towards the people affected by the cross LoC shelling and demanded their urgent rehabilitation, including construction of bunkers, supply of ration and other facilities. He expressed his deep sympathy with them. He also demanded urgent start of renovation work on the shrine of Hazrat Baba Farid (R.A.) at Garkote which suffered massive damage in a lightening incident two days ago.
The former Minister accused the sitting MLA for having left the constituency much before his defeat in the coming elections and running the affairs through his proxies. He wondered how could the sitting MLA enjoy the comforts elsewhere when the developmental process here has come to a halt and people are living in abject miseries.
Earlier on his arrival from the winter capital, Taj Mohi ud Din was taken in a huge procession where people received their leader warmly. He was taken in a procession from Peerniya to Uri by people.
It may be recalled that during his two time stint as the MLA and Minister, Taj Mohi ud Din had unleashed a massive developmental offensive in Uri with the laying of roads, strengthening of public infrastructure and addition of basic services to people. (KNS)
