SHRC issues notice to JK Govt on arrest of youth from court

Srinagar: State Human Rights Commission(SHRC) has issued a notice, seeking a response from authorities, on a petition regarding the arrest of a youth from court while attending a hearing in connection with the trial in some case.

The Petition has been filed by human rights activist and chairman international forum for justice Human Rights JK and the notice was issued by member SHRC Dilshad Shaheen.

The commission has sought report regarding grounds of detention under which the youth, Umar Adil Dar, was arrested and lodged in Kathua jail.

Untoo said on August 1, 2018, Umar went to Anantnag court for a hearing where he was arrested by the police and later slapped with the PSA and shifted to Kathua jail.

Untoo said that in Kathua jail Umar has been lodged with the “dreaded criminals which pose a big threat to his life”. He said that if anything happens to Umar, the entire blame will lie on the jail superintendent.
