Srinagar, Sep 10: Government on Monday constituted a committee to look into the allegations by a man that a Gynecologist refused to treat his pregnant wife after the couple refused her offer for Caesarean-section in Anantnag district of south Kashmir last week.

The committee was constituted on the directions by Commissioner Secretary Health who took cognizance of a news report.

“I have directed concerned to inquire into it and take strict action in case the doctor is found at fault,” Commissioner Secretary Health, Dr Pawan Kotwal said.

Soon Mission Director NHM, J&K, Dr Mohan Singh ordered constitution of the committee for conducting the inquiry.

The committee comprising senior officers of the Directorate along with District Programme Manager Anantnag for NHM has been asked to submit the detailed factual report within three days for submission to the higher authorities so that action under rules can be accordingly effected.

Director General (DG) Health Services, Kashmir, Saleem-Ur-Rehman while confirming that three days time has been given to inquiry committee for submitting the report, assured that strict action will be taken against the doctor if allegations prove correct.

The committee also followed submission of a complaint by Bilal Ahmad Khanday whose wife was refused to be treated by the doctor identified as Dr Shaheena Katoo.

Bilal Ahmad made an emotional appeal to health authorities on social media after the lady doctor posted at the MCH Anantnag allegedly refused to treat his wife.

Narrating the sequence of events, Khanday said that Dr Shaheena Katoo was treating his wife ever since she conceived early this year. He said as the delivery date came closer, the doctor told him that his wife has to undergo surgery which will be held at her private clinic.

“Initially, she demanded Rs 30,000 for the surgery. I pleaded before her that I am a poor man after which she settled for Rs 20, 000,” Khanday said, adding “Dr Shaheena told me to admit my wife for surgery on Wednesday,”

However, before he could take his wife for surgery, Khanday says, his wife developed complications forcing him to take her to Seer hospital.

“From there, I went to district Sheerbagh Anantnag hospital. When Dr Shaheena came to the ward, she identified me and my pregnant wife. She had a cursory look at my wife and said that her baby has died in the womb,” Khanday alleged.

He said that the lady doctor also refused to treat his wife even after making a false claim of dead baby.

“I held her feet and requested her to save my wife, if my baby was dead. She didn’t listen. Instead, she referred my wife to Lal Ded hospital in Srinagar,” Khanday said.

At the LD hospital, Khanday said that the doctors were puzzled to know that Dr Shaheena had advised surgery and had called the baby dead.

“My wife had a normal delivery. She was taken very well care by the doctors and the staff there,” Khanday said, adding “Dr Shaheena made false claims that my baby was dead because she didn’t get the money. Doctors like her are a blot to medical fraternity and a threat to the society,”

Dr Shaheena Katoo could not be reached for comments because both of her mobile phones were switched off.

Stop marketing sentiments of Kashmiris: Sajad tells Omar

Srinagar, April 20: Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Saturday said that the inability of mainstream parties to deliver is partly responsible for low participation of people in the election process.
“What have you done to the people? Why aren’t people coming out in hordes like in other states to join the polling queue. We are relatively new in mainstream politics; you are a 70-year-old party. Unfortunately, we have become victims of the pessimism that people share about mainstream politics. We do agree that there is a lot of ideological boycott but part of it is also against the inability of the mainstreamers to deliver”, Sajad said in a statement.
Criticising the NC for their failure to deliver on their lofty promises, Sajad said that people of Kashmir know that for generations the Abdullahs’ have been lying to them.
“Mr. Omar Abdullah you have to answer, what have you done to these people? Why aren’t they coming out? Wherever we went there is a general pessimism and negative attitude towards false promises. You promised them the elusive moon; short of ‘Azaadi’ you have promised them everything under the sky. And look at the numbers in Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency you have been able to attract. This shows that people know you are lying. They know you always lie through your teeth, that for generations you have been lying to them. Had they taken your promises seriously, put your hand on your heart, wouldn’t there have been 80% polling”, he added.
While expressing gratitude to the voters of Srinagar Parliament Constituency for reposing their faith in Peoples Conference Sajad said that the lack of queues outside polling stations is a big question mark on the politics of the mainstream parties.
“We thank the people of Srinagar the way they came and voted against the traditional parties. We are confident of our victory and hope that we are able to deliver and be greeted with long queues of voters the next time we go out to ask vote. Polling day in most of the parts was more about the solitude of the polling staff and less about the excitement of polls. We would have though that a four-time Chief Minister in the fray would have meant huge queues at the polling booths. The lack of huge queues is a question for us also but the bigger question to the so called 70-year old party, so-called upholder of the Kashmiri rights.
Maybe the traditional parties have become immune to low turnouts but we feel that low polling is a humiliation that we all face at the hands of the majority that stays indoors.”
Sajad said that the Omar Abdullah should stop marketing the sentiments and aspirations of the people of Kashmir by making false promises.
“The ‘finale moment’ will come one day, that is for sure. But don’t make a mockery of this issue. This issue is sacred to the people of Kashmir. It enjoys sanctity across all sections of people. This ‘finale moment’ will hopefully come very soon despite you. Because you are the ones who facilitated erosion steadily over the last five decades. You are the ones who stole the ‘finale moment’ in 1996 by accepting power without internal autonomy and blowing away that chance. Stop marketing this, this is not about marketing Mr. Omar Abdullah, this is not about the event management companies you have hired, this is about a sentiment, this is about an aspiration. Please don’t sully these aspirations. Stop, have mercy on the faith of these and on the faith of the people of Kashmir”, he added.

Shooting stones hit traffic on Jmu-Sgr highway for fourth consecutive day

Press Trust of India

Srinagar, April 20: The traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was affected for the fourth consecutive day Saturday due to intermittent shooting of stones from a hillock overlooking the only all-weather road linking Kashmir Valley with rest of the country.
No fresh vehicular traffic was allowed on the highway, either from Jammu or Srinagar, over the past three days owing to multiple landslides and shooting of stones at several places, including Anokhi fall, Battery Cheshma and Mokey Morh in Ramban district, officials said.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik had recently announced closure of the 270-km highway for civilian traffic on Sunday and Wednesday every week to allow smooth movement of security forces’ convoys.
With no movement of forces convoy on Wednesday, the authorities had allowed Srinagar-bound vehicles from winter capital Jammu, but thousands of commuters were left stranded on the highway following blocking of the road due to multiple landslides and shooting of stones triggered by rains.
Though road clearance agency pressed men and machines and removed the debris from the road, the authorities decided against allowing fresh traffic on the highway on Thursday to facilitate over 2,500 stranded vehicles, the officials said.
However, a massive landslide again hit the road on Thursday-Friday night at Monkey Morh, once again halting the movement of the traffic.
The traffic was allowed Friday morning but continuous shooting of stones hampered the smooth movement of vehicles, they said.
“The road is open, but the traffic is moving at a slow pace due to intermittent shooting of stones at Monkey Morh. We are hopeful of clearing the remaining 600 stranded vehicles, mostly trucks, by this evening,” Senior Superintendent of Police, national highway, Jatinder Singh Johar told PTI.
He said since there will be convoy movement on Sunday, no civilian vehicle will be allowed from either Jammu or Srinagar.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) state secretary G N Malik said the ban on civilian traffic has adversely affected horticulture sector in the Valley as he called for hassle-free movement of fruit-laden trucks.
“There is a large chunk of apples stored in cold storage which require urgent transportation to various destinations in the country. The apple crop has been hit badly by the ban,” he said in a statement.
The Left leader urged the Governor administration to allow these trucks to ply towards Jammu so that they reach their destinations well in time.
“The harvesting of cherry crop is expected to start from May and will continue till June in Kashmir valley and the growers associated with it are extremely woeful as restrictions will hit the transportation of this short lasting crop. The ban is unjustified and will make small-time farmers suffer,” he added.

People have lost faith in PDP: NC

Bejbehara, April 18: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday said that people of Kashmir have lost faith in PDP saying that the people would never forgive Mufti’s for betraying and berating their verdict in 2014 by forging alliance with BJP-RSS.

Addressing an election campaign rally at Bijbehara, party’s senior leader Muhammad Akbar Lone said that there is no sympathy for Mehbooba Mufti on ground and that the people of Bijbehara will not forgive her for unleashing torments on the people particularly the people of Bijbehara, who had reposed faith in her during 2014 elections.

“Today she is again coming forth with the same set of promises she made while canvassing for assembly elections in 2014. However what followed is an open secret, it cannot be articulated in words, there aren’t any alphabets that can reveal the massive pain the people of Kashmir particularly the people of south Kashmir are going through,” he said.

“When enjoying the benefits of power, she had bolted her mouth. People who had voted for her were dejected by her changed outlook. People still remember how sordidly she mocked the death and misery of hundreds of families who had to shoulder the coffins of their beloved, with her ‘milk and toffee’ remarks. People remember how appallingly she had asserted that the guns of security forces aren’t for display but action. She shamelessly stuck to her chair when the youth who had voted for her were being fired upon. She didn’t have the gumption to bid good bye to BJP when scores of our youth, and elderly were being blinded and maimed. On the contrary she barefacedly presided over the relentless miseries of people. How can people forget her treachery and political duplicity? People across the state particularly in Kashmir are bidding goodbye to the PDP’s brand of politics, which is based on duplicity, crude lies and political Shenanigans. Mehbooba is herself admitting the fact that people of the state, in particular her workers are disgruntled with her.PDP is a spent force, it never was any; the edifice of PDP has stumbled down under the weight of its own deceit and falsehood,” he said.

Party’s South Zone President Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri, while addressing the public meet, said, “Today we see Mehbooba Ji taking pledges for the protection of state’s special status. How can she assume that she can fool people all the time? If she thinks on these lines then she is surely living in a fool’s paradise, people who come to spend time at the Dara Shikoh Park don’t veer around her late father’s tomb, the reason we all know is the doomed embrace of Mufti’s with BJP-RSS. When Mehbooba Ji was told to bow down by BJP, she crawled before them. There is nothing which suggests that she won’t join hands with the BJP in the future also.

He further added, “PDP is still in a tacit alliance with BJP; the way PDP supported BJP’s candidate for the post of deputy chairman of Lokh Sabha reveals it all. Nonetheless, how can she protect the sanctity of our flag now when she couldn’t stand for the interests of Kashmir when in government with BJP? On the contrary, it was she who allowed the implementation of SARFAESI, and NFSA in J&K. what was left of our autonomy; Mufti’s took it upon them to obliterate it. How can she protect it now?”

The leaders who addressed the public meet sought huge winning margin for party’s Anantnag parliamentary constituency candidate Retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi. The leaders said that Masoodi has been known for his pronounced judgments on the special status of J&K. They said that he is the best person to voice for state’s interests both inside and outside parliament.

Among others retired Justice Hasnain Masooodi, Peer Muhammad Hussnain also addressed the public meet and impressed upon the people to rally round the flag of National Conference.
