New Delhi: Chinese handset maker OnePlus will launch its 5G handset by the end of next year with media reports speculating that it could be the OnePlus 7.

At the Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei dropped the hints about the company’s upcoming phone, media reports have said.

Pei, reportedly made it official that OnePlus has been “experimenting with 5G technology”, and it will be ready to introduce the phone by the end of 2019.

Going by the naming trends, media reports said that the upcoming flagship could be the OnePlus 7 or the OnePlus 7T

Addressing the gathering at the event, Pei said “OnePlus will be one of the first, if not the first, to do so,” as reported by Engadget.

OnePlus, meanwhile, is all set to launch its latest flagship – OnePlus 6T, globally on 29 October while its India launch is slated for October 30.

The upcoming device will house in-screen fingerprint scanner.

The company’s CEO Pete Lau recently said that the 3.5-mm headphone jack has been done away with to make room for the new “Screen Unlock” feature — OnePlus’ name for the in-display fingerprint sensor.

The smartphone will feature a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a waterdrop-style notch and an aspect ratio of 19:9.

The screen is expected to sport Corning Gorilla Glass as it houses the in-display fingerprint scanner, enabling the “Screen Unlock” feature.

OnePlus 6T will be based on Android 9 Pie, and will run the Snapdragon 845 processor.

The OnePlus flagship is rumoured to house 3700mAh battery and will support the company’s “DashCharge” technology.
