MeT predicts light, moderate rains in Kashmir from Apr 10

Srinagar, Apr 02: As the dry spell across the Valley continued, the weatherman on Monday predicted light rains on Apr 10 and 11 this month, saying that they are predicting moderate rainfall at isolated places on these days.
Director Meteorological department (MeT), Sonum Lotus told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that there is possibility of light and moderate rainfall in plains and isolated places on in between April 10 and 11.
Asked about the prolonged dry spell, Director said that the prolonged the low intensity and frequency of Western Disturbance has caused prolonged dry spell this year. “There is no doubt that snow as well as the rainfall was too low this year but such situation was witnessed in the past as well. This year, the dry spell increased as compared to the previous years,” he said.
Appealing people not to panic over the dry spell, Lotus said that there is no need to panic over prolonged dry spell as the weather won’t continue what is being witnessed nowadays.
Asked about the advisory issued by the authorities, asking farmers not to cultivate paddy crops during this Agricultural season due to chances of scarcity of water, the Director said that the authorities might have issued such advisory after doing homework. “I can’t comment over what they have advised. I think such decision would have been after proper consideration,” he said.
However, he said that the agriculture in Kashmir don’t depend on rainfall fully. (KNS)
