Lone Mohalla Chanapora residents aghast over water scarcity

Srinagar, April 9: The residents of Chanapora’s Lone Mohalla are anguished over the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department’s failure to provide water supply to them.

The residents said that they have been suffering miserably because of the non-availability of water.

“Despite the fact that our area constituting of around 600 households totally depends on the water supplied by PHE, yet from last few days we are deprived of the same,” said a local, Hayat Rather.

Rather added the locals are forced to fetch water from adjoining areas.

“We bring water from other areas. If at all water is provided to our area, the major chunk of it goes to the households who use water motors. Ironically, some officials from PHE department have given separate water connections to influential households in our area who are receiving uninterrupted water supply,” alleged another resident, Bashir Ahmad.

The residents said that they apprised the concerned department several times of the issue, but except for the assurances nothing came to our hands.

“If water supply was not restored at an earliest, we would be forced to hit the streets. The onus of any eventuality arising out of our protests would directly come on to the government,” the residents added.

Chief engineer, PHE, Abdul Wahid assured he would look into the matter.
