JLNM Hospital performs 2000 minimal access surgeries till Nov 15

Srinagar, Nov 20: The Minimal Access Surgical (MAS) unit established Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital, Srinagar today declared that they performed 2004 minimal access surgeries till 15th November 2018.

The spokesperson in a press release issued said the main feature of this unit is that all surgeries are performed through small button hole-incision using high end equipment. These surgeries include gall bladder, appendix, ventral and inguinal hernias, varicoceles, orchidopexy, orchidectomy, hydatid cyst liver, ovarian cyst, ectopic pregnancy and diagnostic laparoscopic procedures for chronic abdominal pain, infertility and staging for malignancy.

The press release further read that laparoscopic procedures have been a routine in JLNM Hospital along with various other peripheral District Hospitals in past.  The unit has also been imparting training to the surgeons and OT staff of various hospitals of the valley including those from teaching hospital and hospitals of Ladakh region.

Dr. Kunzes Dolma, Director Health Services, Kashmir has complimented the operative team and the administration for achieving this milestone in a short span of time and has assured of full support in upgrading this facility and making it efficient for patient care.

The MAS under administrative support and supervision of Dr. Zakir Hussain, Medical Superintendent, is headed by Dr. H.Vaqar Ahmad assisted by qualified Minimal Access Surgeon Dr. Akhter Ganai and supported by a team of dedicated and experienced Surgeons, Urologist, Anesthesiologist and theater staff.
