‘Investigate minutest details in NDPS, POCSO cases’: DGP tells police officers

Jammu, Feb 29: Investigate minor and the minutest details of rape, POCSO and NDPS cases to ensure fair trial and conviction of involved persons: This was stated by DGP, J&K Dilbag Singh, who was chief guest at the workshop titled “Investigation of NDPS and Rape/POCSO case & CCTNS” organized by J&K Crime Branch police at auditorium Gulshan ground here on Saturday.
The DGP said that Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act and Rape/Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases are matter of concern for all and stressed upon the officers to take due care and investigate minor and the minutest details of these cases so that desired results are achieved.
He directed the officers to make utmost use of the workshop and see where they lack and identify the inadequacies and plug the loopholes.
“This will help in increasing the conviction rates in these cases,” he added.
Referring to the increasing trend in drug abuse, the DGP said that drugs are playing havoc with the society.
He said that drug users are increasing every passing day.
“We have to block supply chain to check this activity. Successful investigation and prosecution of these cases will help to achieve desired results,” the DGP said.
He added that with the coordinated efforts of J&K Police and other security forces the militancy activities have come down but emerging trend of drug abuse is a serious concern for all of us.
He directed the officers that during crime review meetings these crimes should be reviewed specifically. The DGP said that these cases are to be dealt very carefully as they directly affect the health of our society and added that if these cases are not handled properly today the result are going to be disastrous tomorrow.
He impressed upon the officers to be very careful in investigating these cases. The DGP said that required equipment and all possible help will be provided by Police Headquarters.
The DGP also thanked IGP crime and his team for organizing the workshop. He also thanked the officers of Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) for sparing their valuable time to educate the JK Police officer regarding investigation of these sensitive issues. He informed such type of workshop for the SHOs of Kashmir Zone will be organized in near future.
The IGP Crime J&K M.K Sinha said that the workshop has been organized on the direction of DGP J&K and idea for organizing this workshop is to scrutinize the reasons of less conviction rates in crimes like drugs abuse and serious crime against women and children.
He said it is first of its kind workshop in Jammu and Kashmir and the idea is to sensitize the SHOs and IOs regarding the best practices for investigating rape, POCSO and NDPS cases. He also stressed for making optimum use of CCTNS services saying that it is being monitored and reviewed at national level.
The IGP gave a detailed power point presentation regarding the procedures to be followed while investigating rape, POCSO and NDPS cases. He impressed upon the officers to follow all the investigating procedures minutely to ensure professional investigation and successful prosecution of these cases.
ADGsP, A.K Chowdary, Deepak Kumar, S.J M Gillani, IGsP Mukesh Singh, Danish Rana, Alok Kumar, DG prosecution S.A Mujtaba, SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil, AIsG of PHQ, SSP, PCR Jammu and SSP Traffic all SHO of Jammu zone and officers from crime Headquarters and PHQ attended the workshop.
