India’s Covid-19 cases rise to 1,965, death toll touches 50: Health Ministry

In India, the number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases rose to 1,965 cases, according to figures provided by the Union health ministry on Thursday morning. Of these, there are 1,764 are active cases, 50 deaths 150 have been cured and / or discharged and one patient migrated. The ministry said 131 new Covid-19 cases have been added in the country in the last 12 hours.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide is fast approaching the one million mark. “In the past five weeks there has been a near-exponential growth in the number of new cases and the number of deaths has more than doubled in the past week,” the head of World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a virtual news conference at the organisation’s Geneva headquarters on Wednesday. “In the next few days we will reach 1 million confirmed cases and 50,000 deaths worldwide,” he said.

With 509 more deaths, France reported its highest daily number of deaths from Covid-19 epedemic, bringing the toll to 4,032, while in the United States, a six-week-old baby died in what was believed to be the pandemic’s youngest victim, according to news agency AFP.

Global agencies have warned that parts of the world could face food shortages if authorities fail to navigate the cornavirus crisis properly.
