HIG Colony residents aghast over increase in immoral activities in area
Srinagar, Jan 30: The residents of H.I.G colony, Bemina are aghast over the growing menace of drug addiction and gambling activities in their area.
The residents feel that the area is gradually becoming hub of “immoral activities,” for the unknown people.
“Boys from other localities come and gather here at a particular spot and smoke, consume all kind of drugs, without even caring about the people living here,” said a resident, wishing anonymity.
He added that they, as a committee, tried a lot to intervene by talking to them, but they do not listen.
The residents also complained about “hooliganism” these boys resort to.
“They resort to smashing glasses of our windows in the late hours when someone from the area taunts them,” said another anonymous resident. The colony according to the locals has become a bastion of such immoral activities.
“We literally feel ashamed when we see the alcohol bottles scattered on roadsides when we accompany our children to their bus stops in the morning,” said a resident.
Residents complained that the miscreants stay in their cars till late hours carrying all sort of immoral activities including drinking alcohol and taking all kind of drugs.
When asked if the local police intervened into the matter to which another resident said, “Yes, we also contacted police. They came twice, but the boys ran off that time and came back later only to repeat their routine.”
The Kashmir Monitor contacted the official of Bemina police post who assured immediate action against the mischievous activities saying, “We will surely look into the matter.”
