Srinagar, Feb 19: A houseboat owner, Haniefa Begum on Tuesday demanded compensation from the government as her houseboat was gutted in the fire.

As already reported, a houseboat near GPO, Srinagar caught fire on Saturday due to short circuit.

She said after the fire, the family is now forced to live in open.

“We have no other alternative. The value of houseboat was around Rs 30lakhs. Unfortunately, we had not insured the houseboat, therefore, we are totally dependent on the government’s relief,” she said.

“Nobody from the government approached us in connection with the relief. I appeal governor Satya Pal Mailk to intervene and direct the authorities to sanction the relief in our favour. ,”she said.
