Srinagar: Disposal of complaints by the government’s Grievance Cell has been much higher during the Governor’s Rule, with over 90 per cent of the complaints considered in the last three months.

As per the data, the governor administration received 21,073 complaints and dealt with 20,483 of them.

Only 288 complaints are, as per the data, “under process”.

As per the sources, the governors—former as well as the incumbent– have been personally monitoring the grievances received by the cell.

“At least a dozen of meetings have been held in the last three months in which the officials were directed to forward the grievances to the respective department and follow their status,” a source in the Grievance Cell said.

Sources said that during previous regimes, the number of complaints on an average daily had been around 150 to 200.

“Although the departments concerned were directed to consider the issues, but the level of response from them was very less. Currently, we receive nearly 300 grievances and a track is being kept on the status of each grievance or complaints,” said a source.

Data reveals that the flow of grievance and their redressal has been relatively low during the previous regimes in the state.

Data reveals nearly 6,000 grievances were received by the cell in 2015 and 2016, of which only 2,298 were disposed of.

To enhance the outreach of the Grievance Cell, the government has also directed the constitution of such cells at district level.

The order in this regard has come from Government Administration Department on Monday by deputing the District Development Commissioners (DDCs) as head of these cells.

The government in the order has directed the concerned DCs to get the report action taken of every grievance within two weeks from the offices.

The DDCs have been also directed to hear grievances of people of their respective districts once a week.
