Srinagar, Jan 31: All Parties Hurriyat Conference convened a meeting of its Majlis-e-Shoora, presided over by its chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, at his Hyderpora residence. The overall political situation was thoroughly discussed.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the amalgam including Haji Gh. Nabi Sumji, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Mohammad Rafiq Ganie, Mohammad Yaseen Aataie, Khawaja Firdous Wani, Gh. Mohammad Nagoo, Syed Mohammad Shafi, Mohammad Maqbool Magami, Yasmeen Raja, Masooda Jamaat-e-Islami, Arshid Aziz and Mubashir Iqbal.
Besides other issues the forum showed its grave concern about the deteriorating condition of the Kashmiri prisoners in and outside state, particularly Tihar. Despite repeated statements and the off and on media reports there seems no respite from the pathetic and humiliating conditions faced by these poor inmates.
The statement issued here read that the meeting termed Kashmir issue as a long pending political and humanitarian issue to be settled by exercising free and fair plebiscite.
In the meeting Hurriyat leaders strongly condemned the nocturnal raid and brutal attack by forces on TeH District President Baramulla Mufti Abdul Ahad and threatened him to exile from the district. He is a well known social and political leader and such barbaric assault on him are unbearable and unacceptable.
In his presidential address, Hurriyat Chairman termed Kashmir issue a globally accepted dispute where in the people’s right to self-determination is not only acknowledged but confirmed by more than a dozen resolutions, but persistent denial of our basic rights has turned this beautiful piece of land in a battle field where every day killings, crackdowns, arrests, nocturnal raids and bulldozing residences has became a routine.
The Hurriyat leader has expressed his serious concern about the pathetic condition of political prisoners, said that despite being political prisoners they are denied every right guaranteed in the national or international jail manual. Revengeful attitude of the rulers in Delhi has grossed every limit of heartlessness and in sensitivity. They willfully prolong their stay in jails through their judicial victimization.
Citing the example of a prisoners Hurriyat chairman said that Dr. Mohammad Qasim has completed his 26 year imprisonment is he is yet to be released, how long he will remain in custody?, he questioned. Slapping of public safety act for the 37th time on Masrat Aalam Bhat has created a history of non compliance of the judicial orders at the hands of occupation administration. Similarly for the last 9 years Mr. Dr. G. M. Bhat is languishing in Tihar jail and the list of fake witnesses (240), out of which only 33 have surfaced in these 9 years and if the judicial pace is same it may need another 50 years for judicial pears to testify his charges. Peer Saifullah is already a paitent of Brain Tumor and has been operated recently, but he is languishing in Tihar jail from last 1 and a half years without any medical care and even are not being released on his medical health. The other prisoners in and outside state are facing the same situation.
Pro-freedom leader passionately appealed to the civil society, other sects of the state and media fraternity particularly to print and electronic professionals and columnists to highlight the gross violations against the political prisoners by the oppressor.
Elaborating it, he said that India’s so-called world’s largest democracy fails to uphold its own obligations and have used every weaponry to crush and quell the freedom movement, but the resilience and determination of the people have unnerved them to frustration and they take the revenge from the pro-freedom people in their custody. They use their venomous attitude to humiliate them and put their sufferings families to the psychological stress.
Hurriyat chairman said that these means and revengeful acts have failed to deterred any conscious freedom loving persons from the rights path.
Appealing the global organization for protecting the prisoner rights and safeguarding their lives in custody, the Hurriyat leader said that ill treatment, poor and unhygienic food, lack of medical aid and solitary confinement has adversely affected them to maximum and Kashmiries in general and their families in particular are worried for their safety.
Hurriyat chairman said, “The prisoners continue to be in custody despite the repeated court orders quashing their detention, but in this lawless land only military might and rule of gun prevails to silence every sane voice, but as every tyrant and oppressor has to vacate the occupied land, our oppressor too will have to face the same fate—time and history has proved it to the satisfaction and encouragement of the oppressed population.”
Hurriyat chairman urged people to boycott upcoming elections and asked them to exhibit steadfastness and keep away from these “shame” elections. He said “participation in these elections tantamount to treason with the blood of our martyrs.” “Authorities are misleading world community by portraying people’s participation in elections as a verdict in their favour,” he said. It is prerequisite to convey a strong message to world community that we pursue a cherished mission of freedom and in no way, justify, defend or favour these elections, he said.
