Kupwara docs missing

Srinagar, Oct 25: The deployment of 38 consultants and 83 medical officers from different hospitals of Kupwara district to Srinagar hospitals has severely collapsed the patient care and working of hospitals in entire Kupwara district.

Though the government defends transfer with the contention that doctors posted in remote areas show their inability to work in such areas on different grounds, but allegations are galore that most of the doctors presently on deployment in Srinagar district have close affiliations of the incumbent and former legislators including former ministers and influential top bureaucrats holding key positions in the state government.
Top sources in the health department revealed that the vacancies created by the transfer of consultants and medical officers have not been filled in Kupwara district.
When contacted Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Kunzes Dolma told media that she will examine the ground situation, see the scope for rationalization to ensure availability of doctors and take suitable decisions with the consent of the administrative department. She regretted that mostly doctors posted in the rural remote areas show their inability to work there on different grounds.
