Srinagar, Nov 08: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed, Thursday convened a meeting to review the arrangements being made for the forthcoming Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) in the district.
The DC while emphasizing the great reverence of the Eid-e-Milad impressed upon all the concerned departments to ensure all their respective tasks are covered with highest degrees of responsibilities.
He directed the PDD and the PHE to ensure uninterrupted power and water supplies to all the major congregation sites, particularly Dargah Hazratbal, during the entire period of Eid-e-Milad. He instructed for provision of standby transformers and generators and mobile water tankers as a backup at these places.
The Regional Transport Office and the State Road Transport Corporation were asked to ensure there is adequate availability of transport facilities at all these places. The Traffic department was asked to prepare well thought-out traffic management and parking plans in order to ensure hassle-free to-and-fro movement of vehicles. He directed that no violations of traffic must be allowed.
The Health department was asked to also station a critical care ambulance at Hazratbal on November 21 besides other facilities like holding of medical camps it provides at these locations during the course of Milad celebrations.
The DC also instructed the R&B to immediately identify and complete pot-filling wherever needed. He also directed the SMC to ensure thorough maintenance of cleanliness around the Dargah among other major places of worship throughout the period of Milad celebrations.
Dr Shah said that a control room will be set up at the DC Office and directed all the concerned departments to provide all details of their respective responsibilities besides other important information for the convenience of the general public.
Senior officers from all concerned departments attended the meeting.
Killing of Shopian youths barbaric: Mehbooba
Srinagar, Nov 18: Former Chief Minister and President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday termed the killings of civilian youth in Shopian barbaric, stating that the people of the state in unison must save youngsters from such catastrophe.
Huzaif Kuttay, a 19-year-old resident of Kulgam was abducted and his body was found with his throat slit. Earlier, Nadeem Manzoor, a resident of Safanagri was abducted and killed on Thursday night.
While meeting the party functionaries from Wachi and Pulwama, Mehbooba said words aren’t enough to condemn the killing of teenagers and that such acts of brutality have no place in Kashmir which in the entire world for centuries is known for its generosity and kindness and has been an abode of revered Sufis and saints.
Terming the killing of youth worrisome and perturbing, the PDP chief stated that no religion on earth permits any person or a group to commit such heinous acts and terrify the peace loving people.
“We as a society need to rise above party affiliations to save youngsters from becoming victims of the unending cycle of violence. Words are not enough to condemn the killing of the teenagers in Shopian. Our heart goes out to the families at this hour of irreparable loss. The entire state is in shock due to such an unfortunate incident,” Mehbooba said.
Other PDP leaders who were present during the meeting include PDP Vice President Abdul Rahman Veeri, Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Aijaz Mir, Mohammad Yosuf and others.
2 persons booked under PSA, shifted to jail in Jammu
Srinagar, Nov 18: District administration on Saturday ordered detention under Public Safety Act (PSA) of two members of Hizbul Mujahideen including a Border Security Force (BSF) man from frontier Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
A district administration official told Global News Service (GNS) that deputy commissioner Kupwara has ordered the detention of the duo under PSA and have been shifted to Kotbalwal jail in Jammu today evening.
The deputy commissioner has passed separate orders to detain the BSF personal Shakir Ahmad Wani and Ghulam Mustafa Sheikh. While Shakir has been booked under PSA number 26/DMK/PSA/ 2018 and Mustafa under 2 /DMK/PSA/ 2018.
The two Hizbul Mujahideen members were arrested by SOG and army’s 28 RR during a raid at Lolab on October 4 this year.
The arrested persons include Shakir Ahmad Wani son of Mohammed Ramzan Wani and Ghulam Mustafa Sheikh son of Abdul Ahad Sheikh, both residents of Tekipora, Lolab.
The police had said that Shakir, a BSF personal was posted outside the state and was on leave when he along with his associate was arrested by the joint team of the government forces.
A police spokesman had said that acting on a specific input, Kupwara Police busted an OGW module of the outfit, operating in Lolab area of the district.
A case FIR no.77 of 2018 u/s 7/25 Arms act 13, 18, 39 Unlawful Activities Act stands registered in P/S Sogam against them.
LeT pays tribute to slain Al-Badr militants
Srinagar, Nov 18: Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Mehmood Shah has paid tribute to Al-Badr militants Yawer Ahmed and Nawaz Ahmed who were killed in a gunfight with government forces at Reban village in Zainpora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A spokesperson of LeT Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi in a statement issued to GNS quoted Shah as saying that “the martyrs have played a pivotal role in exposing the Indian aggression before the world”.
“It is the honour of the martyrs to retaliate against the unjust occupation and to fight for their fundamental rights,” he said.
Mehmood Shah said New Delhi has never been able to suppress the indigenous freedom struggle through force, nor will it bear any success in future.
Terming the 2019 elections as “drama”, LeT chief said India sees terrorists every now and then.
This is the propaganda and through such vicious tactics, Government of India wants to secure vote bank by sowing the seeds of hatred between Muslims and Hindus.
“Muslims in poor plight are killed in fake encounters so as to convince the Indian public that they have in fact targeted terrorism. How are they terrorists when they did not commit any crime? The Indian policy of hatred will shake its very foundation,” he said.
Mehmood Shah said that if Ram Temple is built on Babri Masjid then Babri Masjid will be built again at the same place in future. “Therefore, Indian forces must come to their senses and quit Kashmir,” he said.
