Will resist any attempt aimed at fiddling with Art 35: NC
Srinagar, Feb 23: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday said party will resist any attempt aimed at fiddling with the State’s special status.
Addressing the protest rally party’s provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani said that reported mass scale arrests and banning of governments advertisements to two local dailies before the hearing of Art 35 A in the Supreme Court has raised apprehensions in masses.
“Our party will resist any attempt aimed at fiddling with our special status. Those who are aiming to touch it are indeed playing with fire. The muteness of BJP on the unremitting attacks on Kashmiris speaks volumes about the hate that BJP panders for us. The outrageous statements of various people against Kashmiris are also condemnable. However, we are thankful to the apex court for coming to the rescue of Kashmiris putting up across the country,” he said, adding “The secular visage of the country has severely been dented by targeted attack against Kashmiris. The partisan approach of the BJP led central government has further alienated the people, especially the youth of Kashmir.”
On random arrests of JeI leaders Nasir said, “Random arrests including nocturnal raids across Kashmir has created a fear psychosis among people. Such measures do not augur well for maintaining peace and harmony in the state. We have seen how similar kind of arrests in early 90’s worsened the problem. Unfortunately similar tactics are being employed now but it is bound to create more problems.”
Earlier, the NC took out a rally here from its head quarters, Nawa-e-Subha towards residency road and staged a sit in protest against the unremitting attacks and intimidation of Kashmiris across the country.
Party functionaries, workers led by General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar holding placards chanted slogans against the BJP led central government and other forces that are held bent to vitiate the atmosphere of country and the state for electoral gains.
The protesters raised slogans in favor of Hindu, Muslim and Sikh unity.
Addressing the protest rally Sagar expressed dismay over the slack attitude of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in ensuring safety and security of Kashmiri traders, students putting up across the country. “It is bizarre to see how the prime minister of a secular democratic country like India has remained tight lipped over the plight of Kashmiris across the country. We Kashmiri had seen the dream of Naya Kashmir come true in the efforts of a secular India, however the way Kashmiris are being hounded has traumatized us to our core.”
“The party stands for freedom of thought and the reported move of government to stop government adds to some major dailies of state including Greater Kashmir, Kashmir Reader is condemnable. It is tantamount to shooting the messenger. The decision should be rolled back. Decisions like these do not augur well for a democratic set up and it will unarguably affect the livelihood of scores of people associated with the dailies,” Sagar said.
Senior party leaders Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Nazir Ahmad khan Gurezi, Sheikh Ishfaq Jabar, Mubarak Gul, Shameema Firdous, Irfan Shah, Dr Bashir Veeri and Peer Afaq also addressed the rally.
Among others Shammi Oberoi, Ali Mohammad Dar, Showkat Mir, Tanvir Sadiq, Mushtaq Guroo, Imran Nabi Dar, Ahsan Pardesi, Mudasir Shahmiri, Nazir Malik, Shabir Kulley, GN Tailbali, Sabiya Qadriya, GN Bhat also participated in the protest rally.
Any fiddle with Art 35 will create irreversible situation of death, destruction in JK: Karra
New Delhi, Feb 23: Former Member of Parliament and member Congress Working Committee (CWC), Tariq Hameed Karra Saturday said that BJP’s utmost failure in governing India is resulting in pre-election evil designs.
Expressing grave concern over the tense atmosphere that has emerged in the entire State after deployment of additional 100 companies of para military forces and mass scale nocturnal arrests, Karra said, “The entire approach of handling Kashmir Issue and Issues of Kashmir through the prism of security is absolutely flawed. It has only increased in loss of numerous human lives. And the numbers just keep on piling. The alienation is seemingly getting irreversible.”
Referring to the Article 35 A of the Indian Constitution, which empowers J&K’s legislature to define “permanent residents” of the State, Karra said that any attempt to fiddle with the law will further create an irreversible situation of death and destruction in the State of J&K which will directly have a negative impact in the entire Indian sub Continent.
“The saner elements in BJP should realize that their party’s hawkish policies are jeopardizing the larger National interests. They should desist from misadventures aimed for the sake of party interests. Any evil designed attempt to tinker with Article 35A will invite trouble for entire Country and the region,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention that SC shall be hearing the petitions challenging Article 35 A on Monday. Karra has hurriedly rushed to New Delhi to appear in the Supreme Court for defending the matter as a private party.
“One can see through the evil design clearly. It’s the time of general elections and they (BJP) have no answers for the promises they made to the Indian public. Besides promises they did scams on colossal scale (the Rafale scam). The obnoxious decision of demonetization and poorly planned GST devastated Indian economy which is still not recovering. Looking at the unemployment figures and the farm distress, one can clearly see that the entire country is in a mess and they have no answers to it. That’s why you see Kashmir boiling again. The issue of article 35A and witch hunting of innocent Kashmiris across India is being done right before elections. They want to shift the entire media focus towards issues which they think will help them in garnering Nationalistic sentiments.” Karra added.
“That’s why it is extremely important that political leadership across entire Jammu and Kashmir should come together and stand shoulder to shoulder in this time of threatened identity, war mongering and political, cultural, social, religious and administrative Ingression. The issue of safeguarding article 35A has to be our top priority and the stand should be above all political, religious and regional considerations in J&K. We should not let BJP and its Cohorts make the people of Jammu and Kashmir and its soil, a cannon fodder for their political failures” Karra said.
Exercise restraint, engage in dialogue to settle issues: Hakeem to Indo-Pak
Jammu, Feb 22: Stating that war and violence was solution to no problem in the world, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) President Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen Saturday urged leadership of India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to settle all the issues.
In a statement issued to media, Hakeem said, “A stable bilateral relationship between India and Pakistan is not only essential to the peace and stability in the region, but the people of Jammu and Kashmir. History is witness that people of the J&K have always been the worst victims of Indo-Pak hostilities.”
Stating that people of Kashmir are paying for the Himalayan blunders committed by the leadership from time-to-time, he said, “The Kashmir Valley is bubbling with anger as repressive tactic by the state have alienated people further. Till Kashmir bleeds people of Kashmir will continue to pay a heavy price. The cycle of violence cannot be broken by brute force. Kashmir finds itself caught in a perilous situation.”
“It is worrying trend because it is akin to the atmosphere of hate and isolation evidenced in the 1990s. Rising incidents of attacks on Kashmiris outside state since last one week is unfortunate and instead of the government providing security to people, now courts have to come to the rescue of Kashmiris who are increasingly feeling increasingly unsafe and insecure across the country,” the PDF chief said.
“Kashmir is at that juncture and eyes will be on the political leaderships in Delhi as how they respond to the prevailing situation. Government of India should hold dialogue with all. India is a democratic country and it doesn’t befit it to suppress the voices of dissent,” he added.
Hakeem said that it was unfortunate that some colleges and universities have refused to take Kashmiri students while others have forced them to leave. “It is unfortunate that Kashmiri students are being made homeless in their own country,” he said.
Former MLA Khansahib said that to restore normalcy in Kashmir, only way out is to hold dialogue with all voices of dissent. “The solution of the problem requires only winning the confidence of the youth through sincere dialogue with all stakeholders. More the talks are delayed, and force used in the state, the greater will be the violence and alienation of the youth,” he added.
Hakeem Yaseen also condemned the wanton arrests of Jamaat-e-Islami and separatist leaders and activists during the night. “In the past 24 hours, Hurriyat and Jamaat leaders and activists have been arrested which is an arbitrary move. It will only worsen things in the Valley as there was no reason and justification for the government to arrest them,” he said and demanded immediate release of all the leaders and activists.
