Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation(SMC) on Wednesday ordered closure of all educational institutions, public clubs, sports clubs, indoor and open stadiums, coaching centers within Srinagar limits till further orders.

Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattoo in a tweet said, “Under a special set of statutory provisions, SMC has ordered closure of all educational institutions, public clubs, sports clubs, indoor and open stadiums, coaching centers within #Srinagar City Limits till further orders. The order within SMC limits takes effect from tomorrow”

He further said that, “It is not my “suggestion”. It is a special emergency resolution passed unanimously by the elected Corporation under full authority vested in it to take such measures in situations like these under the J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000.”

    Closure of schools and colleges is nothing new for people in the valley, Only recently schools were reopened after months of closure.

    Whatever may be the cause but it is very much unfortunate to see that the children in the valley are deprived of their education. Govt should think over.
