Chill-ai Kalan: Valley, Ladakh shivers

Srinagar, Dec 26: Cold wave conditions continued in Kashmir and Ladakh on Wednesday as well as minimum temperatures remained below the freezing point throughout day and night.

At minus 9.4 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the valley.

Drassfroze at a hazardously minus 21.7 degrees.

Leh town in Ladakh region registered the minimum temperature of minus 17.1, while Kargil recorded minus 14.4 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 6.7 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 5.9 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 7.9 degrees.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Jammu city recorded 3.5 degrees Celsius, Katra 4.2, Batote minus 1.3, Banihal recoded minus 3.0 and Bhaderwah recorded minus 2.1 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
