Chennai tourist ‘injured in stone pelting’ dies

Srinagar, May 07: A tourist from Tamil Nadu died after allegedly being hit by stones during anti-government protests in Narbal Budgam, reports said on Monday.
The tourist, R Thirumani, from Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai, who was admitted in the SK Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar in a ‘serious condition’, succumbed to his injuries soon after.
22-year old Thirumani had been admitted with a head and nose injury that he allegedly received in stone pelting at Narbal road between Srinagar and Gulmarg.
A senior Police official said the tourist was injured during stone hurling protests.
“A girl from Handwara was also injured after they came under stone pelting on Srinagar-Gulmarg road near Narbal on Monday. Some vehicles came under stone pelting, resulting into injuries to two of them who were referred to hospital for treatment,” the officer said.
“We have registered a case under FIR Number 57/2018 u/s 148, 247, 307, 336 RPC in Police Station Magam. Investigations into it have been initiated and culprits involved into the incident will be nabbed soon,” the officer said.
