SRINAGAR, APRIL 2: Governor NN Vohra, Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, urged scientists and researchers in the State universities to undertake research which is relevant to the problems of the state.
Addressing 13th session of the J&K Science Congress at the University of Kashmir, the Governor said: “I have been having discussions with the Vice-Chancellors of all the four State Universities and repeatedly stressing that unless the universities—their scientists, humanists, and all the teachers—undertake research which is related to the problems faced by the people of the state, they shall continue to exist as standalone institutions. If universities, particularly their scientists, get involved in the problems of the state and help the state governments to resolve them, for instance the problem of Dal Lake, problems of receding levels of ground water etc., they would be able to render invaluable support to the advancement of the welfare goals of governance.”
The theme of the Science Congress is “Emerging Technologies and Human Society: Applications and Constraints”.
Governor observed that the annual sessions of the Science Congress provide a very useful opportunity for the scientists in the host university, and those who participate from the other universities in the State and from various other parts of the country, and senior science students who are doing their PhDs to deliberate on some of the major problems facing the state.
Governor called for making the best and the correct and right use of science and technology and cautioned against misuse for purposes which are not for advancing the welfare of living beings.
“If scientists from the Kashmir University and those from all the other universities in the State, including the two Farm Universities get involved in finding solution to the problems of J&K we shall be able to achieve rapid progress.
Governor said that Kashmir University has a very high potential of emerging as one of the top universities in the country, especially in the arena of science, if the Faculty works with devotion and zeal and inculcates meritocracy in the academic and research arenas and totally discourages any manner offavouritism or groupism.
In his welcome address, Vice Chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, said that the University has undertaken several reforms and transparency measures and has figured among the top 100 universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework-2017 and also among the top universities in BRICS. He thanked the Chancellor for his continued and sustained support in the development and progress of the University.
This Science Congress has been supported by the J&K State Science, Technology & Innovation Council, Government of J&K; Department of Science and Technology Government of India; Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India and the Jammu and KashmirBank , J&K.
Prof RP Tandon from the University of Delhi and Prof Zafar A Reshi, Dean Research and Co-Convener Science Congress, also addressed the inaugural session, which was attended by several hundred research scholars and students.
Congress alone can defeat fascist forces: Mir
Srinagar, April 25: Maintaining that Congress party was fully capable enough to defeat the communal & fascist forces both in the country and state hell bent upon to abrogate Special Status granted to J&K, the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) & party candidate from Anantnag parliamentary constituency G.A. Mir has said that Congress is fighting present elections against the divisive forces and communal agenda of BJP-RSS.
Mir also hit out at “opportunist parties” PDP, BJP and others for misleading people on various sensitive issues concerning J&K for electoral gains, saying that the policy of falsehood & deceit adopted by these opportunist parties has made the lives of people in Kashmir impossible and sought people’s support to put an end to the drama being staged by PDP, from time to time to generate sympathy after failing people on all fronts.
This was stated by G.A. Mir while addressing various public meetings at Panzgam Nad, Varel Kund in Devsar Assembly Constituency in District Kulgam and appealed the people to remain vigilant about the designs of PDP and other opportunist parties who were fully dependent on falsehood and deceit to exploit people to serve their vested interests, but at the same time, he (Mir) felt confident that people of south Kashmir and elsewhere in J&K have realized as to what PDP was doing to mislead them again.
He was accompanied by Senior Congress Leaders Haji Ab. Rashid Dar, Mohd Amin Bhat, Hilal Ahmad Shah, Vinod Koul, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, Adv Hashim and others.
Asserting that it is the Congress, which can protect the Special Status of the J&K State and will ensure equitable development of all the three regions, G. A. Mir lashed out at BJP Chief Amit Shah over repeatedly raking up the issues of Article 370 in his election rallies aiming to mislead people on this count, the fact of the matter remains that BJP cannot even touch it, as that, the Article 370 works as a bridge between State & the Centre, besides that, it has the emotional binding with the people in J&K. Whatever Narinder Modi or Amit Shah say in their rallies for public consumption was far from reality. Both (Modi & Amit Shah) want to change the narrative, which will be defeated tooth and nail, G.A. Mir said.
He said the communal and fascist forces were hell bent upon to divide the people of JK on religious and regional lines, but the Congress being the only unifying force in the Country and State will thwart their designs.
Mir also hit out at PDP for ensuring inroads to BJP RSS in the State and said many right thinking people had advised PDP leadership not to align with the BJP on the basis that this party has remained hell bent upon to abrogate special status for gaining political mileage in the Country, but the PDP leadership turned deaf ear and compromised on their core agenda for the sake of coming into the power, which has disappointed people at large scale, G.A. Mir added and appealed the people to use the opportunity of the present elections to defeat the political exploitation & deceit on the part of PDP and others.
Mir also said PDP was fully responsible for prevailing situation in valley especially in south Kashmir, besides loss of lives and regular incidents of violence because of its betrayal and political exploitation.

MCC an excuse to avoid redressal of burning issues: Rasheed
Srinagar, April 25: Asking state administration not to forget its duties towards common masses, AIP president Er Rasheed has sought immediate redressal of burning issues pertaining to common masses.
While interacting with people during his day-long visit in Kupwara Constituency Er Rasheed alleged that so-called model code of conduct has become an excuse and silly argument to those officers who don’t want to deliver and treat themselves beyond accountability.
Er Rasheed said, “Be it power crises or restoration of drinking water supply and other basic immunities, most of the officers have just one line answer that there is a model code of conduct in place. It is disgusting and shameful that the damaged transformers are lying in PDD workshops since months and concerned authorities don’t pay any heed towards genuine grievances of masses. The functioning of education, health and other prestigious sectors has been kept hostage to the model code of conduct. While there is no model or moral code of conduct for the corrupt Bhabus, even routine files of the common man are being thrown to the dustbin with the excuse that there is a model code of conduct in place.”
Er Rasheed urged the governor to take serious note of sufferings of masses and ensure that all essential services run without any interruptions and excuses.
