Srinagar, April 08: CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami while reacting to BJP’s election manifesto Monday said that the promise of abrogation of Article 370 and annulling Article 35A in its election manifesto is another exercise by the BJP to hoodwink the voters ahead of General Election. Critical examination of the BJP’s previous (2014) manifesto reveals that all the promises, including providing two crore jobs per year, doubling the income of farmers and other promises have proved a hoax. Reality is that the only “achievement” of the BJP in the past five years has been dividing society through hate campaigns. The BJP has failed to deliver on all the promises and is now trying to rake up those issues which are divisive aimed at polarizing the society further.

In a statement issued to media, Tarigami said, “Prevailing situation in Kashmir is before the eyes of everybody. From 2014 onwards, it is clear that the single biggest “success” of the BJP has been to push Kashmir into lap of cycles of violence, resulting in huge number of deaths of civilians and security forces personnel. The situation in Kashmir has reached to an extent that authorities had to ban the movement of civilian traffic on national highway for two days a week. Such a mindless order can only have serious repercussions.”

“Article 370 is in the basic structure of Indian Constitution providing a constitutional basis for the relationship of J&K with the Union. CPI (M) has filed an intervention application in the Supreme Court against the removal of Article 370 and Article 35A as it is the life line of state’s relation with the Union. Erosion of Article 370 has already weakened the relation of Jammu and Kashmir with the union of India. Any attempt to abrogate it, will be disastrous and will have unimaginable repercussions,” he said.

CPI (M) had never any illusions about the communal designs of the BJP. We trust the people of the country that they will evict this authoritarian communal regime from power in the coming General Election. The only correct response to the emerging situation in J&K remains initiation of a political process which can help to find a political solution based on providing autonomous setup by restoring Article 370 to its original position, and urgently putting an end to the excesses committed by law enforcing agencies against civilians and initiating a genuine process of dialogue with all stakeholders.
