Srinagar, Jul 12: Notwithstanding the claims of the government, the under construction flyovers from Jehangir Chowk to Rambagh and TRC to polo view will take one more year for completion as the work on both the flyovers has come to a grinding halt.
For last more than two months the work on both the flyovers remains suspended as authorities claiming a breakthrough in negotiations with the concerned construction companies for settlement of payments issues have failed to bring the workers of the concerned construction company and labourers back on the construction sites at Jehangir Chowk, Rambagh and TRC crossing.
Not only the work on the under constructions flyovers has been stopped but the huge iron rods placed in the middle of roads for last more than two years are causing huge traffic jams in the heavily congested Jehangir Chowk, Rambagh and TRC crossing areas. It is in place to mention here that recently a mini bus while on its way from Jehangir Chowk to Hyderpora while following the traffic diversion via new Mehjoor Nagar Bridge met an accident and dozens of passengers were critically injured.
It is in place to mention here that the authorities failed to complete the construction of both the flyovers on deadlines they set for the completion and the snail’s pace of work on both the flyovers shows that it would take next one year for the authorities to complete the construction.
Interestingly the construction on both these flyovers was taken up in the year 2014 along with Bikram Chowk flyover but the work was disrupted due to floods in September 2014 and again in 2016 when unrest in Kashmir hit the normal developmental work.
Though the Bikram Chowk flyover in Jammu was opened for traffic purposes almost a year back the construction on the two flyovers in Srinagar remains suspended for the last two months.
