Two militants killed in Tral, operation over

Srinagar: Two militants were killed in a gunfight with joint team of police, army, and CRPF in Saimoh area of Tral in Pulwama district on Tuesday.

Confirming the killing of two militants, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar told news agency GNS that it was “a clean operation and there was no collateral damage.”

Quoting sources, the news agency reported that the slain militants belonged to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH) outfit even as their identity and affiliation was yet to be officially confirmed.

One of the militants was killed early Tuesday morning while as the second one died a few hours later.

Earlier, a joint team of police, army’s 42 RR, and 180th battalion of CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation in Saimoh area after getting “specific inputs” about the presence of the militants.

“As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the militants opened fire leading to a gunfight. After the initial exchange of fire, there was a lull in between, and the operation resumed to finally culminate into the killing of the two militants,” a police official said.

Meanwhile, internet services, had been suspended in police district Awantipora.
