In Narbal area, where the incident occurred, police conducted nocturnal raids and arrested over 15 youth including five members of a single family.
Parents and relatives of detained youth were seen standing outside different police stations, seeking the release of their loved ones.
Sources informed that police conducted night raids at Ghat Narbal area of district Budgam and arrested over 15 youth on charges of stone-pelting. Locals accused that they were harassed and intimidated during these raids, a charge refuted by police.

“They are not stone-pelters but vegetable vendors,” said a relative of the Khanday family who identified the arrested youth as Nazir Ahmed, Muhammad Arshid, Rafiq Ahmed, Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Omar.
A day after the death of tourist, police claimed that investigation has been completed and culprits identified.
