Srinagar, Nov 29: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) chairman Justice (Rtd) Thursday issued notices to the SSP and the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag asking them to submit a detailed compliance report before the commission regarding the killing of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat district president who was killed by unknown gunmen on November 25.
The notices to the SSP and DC Shopian were sent in response to the petition filed by chairman International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Muhammad Ahsan Untoo under case number SHRC/403/Ang/2018. The petitioner had already announced that he will bear the educational expenses of all three children of the slain TeH leader besides asking the commission to launch a probe to indentify the “unknown killers.”
The petitioner said that despite the fact the slain leader had already made public the threats given to him by the unknown people, the government and the police failed to protect his life with the result he fell to the bullets of unknown gunmen.
Hafizullah was shot outside his house by the unknown gunmen at around 10 am in Achabal area of Anantnag. He was removed to the hospital where he succumbed.
The petitioner said that he has urged the commission to conduct a time bound inquiry into the killing of Hafizullah to identity the unknown people involved in the killing of Hurriyat activists in Kashmir. He has also demanded for compensation to the family of slain Hurriyat leader.
