Srinagar, Nov 27: Former SSP Srinagar and new entrant in the National Conference (NC) Riyaz Bedar hours after joining National Conference said that for safeguarding special status, strengthening a regional party like National Conference is a priority as the repeated interventions from the central government have thrown up a big challenge as far as the protection of special status of Jammu and Kashmir is concerned.

Riyaz Bedar said, “surely I will be contesting elections and the decision in this regard will be taken at the appropriate time. Strengthening a regional party like National Conference for safeguarding the special status of the state is my conviction and henceforth a priority.”

Saying that people have to think about a bigger mandate for a regional party like National Conference which has been tested and trusted many a times in the past, Bedar said, “National Conference is the only party which can retain special status of the state despite repeated interventions from the central government.”
