Srinagar family alleges daughter murdered by in-laws

Srinagar, Oct 19: A family from Padshahi Bagh area of the city today staged a protest at the City Centre here alleging that their daughter was strangulated to death by her in-laws.

Reports reaching news gathering agency Global News Agency said that the family of a woman, who was married on September 12 last year, alleged that her husband Abid Yusuf Najar of Nowgam and his family murdered her, four months after she delivered a baby boy. The woman, her family alleged was strangulated to death by her in-laws hours after she spoke to her mother.

“My sister called her mother saying she will come home as she wasn’t feeling well. An hour later, we found her lying dead at the Florence hospital,” Shehnaz, sister of the deceased woman told GNS.

At the hospital, she said injury marks on her sister’s body were spotted by the friends of her brother Junaid. The doctors too, she said told the family that their daughter hadn’t possibly eaten for four days due to which her stomach was found empty.

“She was been strangulated to death. We married her last year hoping she’ll have a happy life. However, we didn’t know a year later, we will see her dead,” Shehnaz said.

A police officer told GNS that investigations were being carried out over the allegations of murder levelled by the family the slain woman.

“We are waiting for the post-mortem report. Once it comes, we will expedite the investigations into this case,” the officer added.
