SMC to spray sodium hypochlorite at crowded places

Srinagar, Mar 5: Amid coronavirus fears, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is launching a massive sanitation drive and spray sodium hypochlorite solution at crowded places across the city from Friday.

SMC has geared up men and machinery for carrying out special sanitation drive in the city especially outside hospitals, schools, and shopping malls.

 “Have instructed SMC Health Officer to constitute a high-level team to present an effective precautionary sanitization and sensitization project in preparation to meet the #COVID2019 challenge. We will take every necessary step in Srinagar and assist the health department,” tweeted SMC Mayor Junaid Matto.

SMC Health officer, Dr. Qazi Javaid told The Kashmir Monitor that they will be spraying sodium hypochlorite solution at crowded places, outside hospitals, schools, and shopping malls.

“SMC will maintain hygiene in crowded places and if required fumigate the area. We will also make people aware of the precautions. People should wash hands frequently with sanitizers and liquid soaps. They should report to the hospital immediately in case any symptoms are noted,” he said.

Dr. Javaid said SMC will launch the drive from the high court on Friday. “Entire court complex will be sanitized,” he said.

Chief sanitation officer SMC, Syed Nisar said that they have identified various spots where the daily flow of garbage is huge. “Staff associated with the collection of garbage will regularly monitor and maintain hygiene. Each ward has been strictly instructed to clear the garbage early morning and spray disinfectants where ever necessary,” he added.
