Srinagar, Sep 21: State Human Rights Commission chairman (rtd) justice Bilal Nazki Friday issued a notice to the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla and SP Sopore and asked them to file a compliance report into the killing of Hurriyat (G) activist Hakeemur Rahman Sultani who was killed on September 9 by unidentified gunmen.
The SHRC notice comes in response to the petition filed by chairman international forum for Justice and Human Rights Muhammad Ahsan Untoo under petition number SHRC/303/bla/2018.
The petitioner had urged the SHRC to appoint a fact finding team to probe the killing of Sultani and to find out why political workers and common people are being killed. The petitioner said that Sultani was killed when he was on way to his house at Reshipora Sopore on 9 September.
The petitioner has also demanded compensation to the family members of Sultani who has four daughters. Pertinently, the joint resistance leadership has termed the killing as gruesome while as police had blamed militants.
The petitioner said it has to be probed as to who is behind the killing of common people as it’s was a serious issue.
