Srinagar: Two militants have been killed in an encounter that broke out between security forces and militants in Melhoora village of Zainapora Sub division in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday evening.
An official said that two militants have been killed in an exchange of fire while as operation is on in the area.
Earlier officials said that on specific inputs about the presence of militants, a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched in the area by joint team of forces including 55RR and Shopian Police.
During the searches, the hiding militants fired upon forces, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter, they said.
As a precautionary measure, internet services have been snapped in the district. (KNO inputs)
