Sehrai appreciates UN Secretary-General’s stand on Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 23: Reacting on United Nations (UN) reiterated its position on Kashmir, and Pakistan’s efforts of intensifying Kashmir issue and gross human rights violations Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman Mohd Ashraf Sehrai, in a statement appreciated the “Secretary-General Antonio” where he reiterated its official and historical position on disputed territory during a Tele conversation with the Pak PM Imran Khan, Secretary General Antonio Guterres reiterated the UN’s earlier stand on the matter and underlining that “there is an observer group as mandated by the Security Council”.

Sehrai in a statement reiterated his call for unfettered and unconditional access to Jammu and Kashmir to independently and impartially monitor the gross human rights situation and send a commission of inquiry to investigate the human rights violations in Kashmir as recommended by former UN Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein earlier this year.

He said that for over seventy years now, Kashmir dispute has remained on the agenda of the UN Security Council and since then it is a blot on the conscience of the international community if such status quo maintained further.”Everything is red already how much blood more to shed? Chairman Tehreek-e-Hurriyat said, said that Pakistan has always forcefully raised the Kashmir issue at all international forums including the UN. Like this year, Pakistan highlighted the persistent human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir at the UN. Being a prime party to the internationally recognised dispute Pakistan must further renew their resolve to continue their support for the Kashmiri brothers and sisters till their legitimate aspirations for the realization of the right to self-determination is achieved in accordance with the UN resolutions and their wishes.

Meanwhile, Sehrai condoled the demise of mother of journalist Manzoor Anjum, said that we share the grief with bereaved family and pray for eternal peace of deceased and courage for the family to bear this painful loss. Sehrai also expressed deep sorrow and anguish over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Uttarakhand where eight Kashmiri labourers lost their lives.
