Srinagar, Jan 4: Unknown gunmen shot dead the brother of a Sarpanch in Tral town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.
An official said that some unknown gunmen opened fire at Simranjeet Singh son of Nanak Singh, a resident of Khasipora in Tral.
In the incident, Simranjeet received critical wounds and was immediately shifted to Tral hospital, from where he was referred to Srinagar for treatment.
Singh, however, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Reports said that the slain is the brother of Sarpanch Khasipora Rajindar Singh.
Rajindar was earlier with Congress but later contested as an independent candidate.
Soon after the attack, army, police, and CRPF launched a search operation to nab the assailants.
