Srinagar, May 28: The family members Adil Ahmad Yadoo, the youth crushed to death by an armoured vehicle of the police, on Monday demanded stern action against the accused driver.
On May 6, Yadoo was killed near Safa Kadal here in the protests that erupted during the encounter at nearby Chattabal.
The police had initially didn’t accept that Yadoo was hit by their vehicle. However, a video of the event shared on the social-media had soon forced them to admit.
During the protest, the family, raising slogans in favour of their demands, said they were not “satisfied” with the investigation being carried out by the police.
“Police has lodged an FIR against an unknown vehicle and an unknown driver. There is a full video recording of the incident. The police station concerned always maintains a record of the deployments,” said Yadoo’s cousin, Noor Mohammad Laway.
The family said they failed to understand as to why the driver, who was detained by the police, was released within six days.
“He is guilty, and yet granted bail. How come? Unless and until stern punishment is not awarded to the accused, we will not stop,” a family member said.
Bashir Ahmad, a neighbour of Yadoo, said the accused driver has taken away the family’s only source of income.
“Nobody from the government has approached the family so far to see their condition. They are really facing a tough time because of his death. His father has been bedridden for a long time,” he said.
