Srinagar, Sep 7: Former Chief Minister and national conference Vice President Omar Abdullah has raised questions on the appointment of a temporary Director General Police saying that there was no hurry to replace SP Vaid as DGP.
Taking to social networking site twitter Omar wrote “There was no hurry to replace @spvaid. He should have been changed only when a permanent arrangement had been worked out. @JmuKmrPolice has enough problems without having to deal with the confusion of leadership.”
“Changing the DG is the prerogative of the administration but why a DG as a temporary arrangement? The current DG won’t know if he’s going to stay & others who would like his job will be trying to replace him. None of this is good for @JmuKmrPolice,” Omar added.
Vaid has been posted as Transport Commissioner of the state. While Director General (Prisons), Dilbagh Singh, has been given the additional charges of the DGP. The present arrangements, according to officials, are temporary.
“Dr S.P. Vaid was the finest police chief I’ve worked with. Not many IPS officers give space to their juniors the way he does. Not many bureaucrats handle the power the way he does. Not many human beings forgive others’ mistakes the way he does. Thank you, Sir, for everything. @spvaid,” tweeted Basant Rath, IGP Traffic.
On Monday government posted B. Srinivas as the additional director general of Police (ADGP) CID, replacing Abdul Gani Mir.
