Police detains father for ‘torturing’ 9-yr-old son

Srinagar, July 5: Police has detained father of the Bandipora boy who was ruthlessly beaten up, while they have secured custody of his sister.
Nine-year-old Mubashir Ahmad Sheikh was reportedly beaten up by his father and stepmother on Wednesday.
Bruised Mubashir travelled to Srinagar where police spotted him and took him to the hospital.
Narrating his ordeal, he had said that he was continuously “tortured” at his home.
“A few days ago, my father and my stepmother sprinkled chili powder over my body. They beat up me and my sister,” he had stated.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar, said they have initiated an investigation.
“We have lodged an FIR under RPC sections 341 and 323, and section 24 of the Juvenile Justice Act,” he said.
“The father of the boy was detained on Wednesday. The boy was living with his stepmother.”
Chairperson Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Justice (retd) Hasnain Masoodi said the girl would be handed over to the Child Development Community.
“Mubashir was in a bad condition and we have sent him to the hospital. He is also worried about his sister, who is still in Bandipora.”
A picture of the boy sparked anger vented by the people on social-media.
