Panel formed to check sexual harassment in hospitals

Srinagar, Feb 12: Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat informed the House that the government has constituted internal Committees headed by senior female doctors in hospitals to keep check on sexual harassment in health institutions.

Replying to a question of Surinder Kumar Choudhary, the Minister informed that four complaints, regarding sexual harassment were received in GMC, Jammu, of which two have been resolved with both the complainants satisfied with the proceedings.

“One case is pending before the State Commission for Women and   in another case the complainant has not appeared before the Committee despite being given many reminders,” he added.

He further said that the government has installed 24 CCTV cameras each in GMC and Psychiatric Diseases Hospital while as 32 each in CD hospital, Super Specialty hospital and SMGS Hospital in Jammu for surveillance. Similarly, 64 CCTV cameras have been installed in GMC, 62 in SMHS Hospital, 60 in GB Pant, 48 in LallaDed hospital and 32 in Bone and Joint Hospital in Kashmir, he added.

Legislators Yasir Reshi and Zaffar Iqbal Manhas raised supplementary questions to the main question.
