Operation ‘Blue Star’ anniversary: Geelani expresses solitary with Sikh community

Srinagar, Jun 04: Expressing solidarity with the Sikh community on the anniversary of the “Operation Blue Star”, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani said that the wounds inflicted on this minority by the military might 34 years ago “are not only fresh, but continue to painful and agonizing for our Sikh brothers.”

He said that the world’s largest democracy has “never tolerated the existence of minorities”.

“Muslims, Sikhs, Dalits and Christians continue to be harassed, killed and humiliated in length and breadth of India,” he said in a statement.

Geelani said that operation ‘Blue Star’ was ‘a brutal and brazen massacre’, where hundreds of Sikhs were killed in a span of just a few days.

“We share the pain and agony of our Sikh brothers as we too are the worst sufferers of this Indian hegemony, for last seven decades,” he said.
